Ajinkya Rahane spent part of the first day of quarantine in Chennai, prior to India’s first test against England, where he played with his daughter, as seen in a video posted on social media by his wife Radhika, which the father-daughter duo called ‘My entertainment in quarantine’. Rahane, who led the Indian team in the last three Tests of the Australia tour, returns to his duty as the team’s vice captain while Captain Virat Kohli, who was on paternity leave, makes a comeback. Team India players started to arrive in Chennai on Wednesday, as shown by Mohammed Siraj and Cheteshwar Pujara’s posting of their whereabouts on social media.

Rahane led India to a historic series win in Australia when India won the decisive Test in Brisbane to take the Border-Gavaskar series 2-1.

It was only the second time that India had won a test series on Australian soil, the last time being their last tour Down Under in 2018/19.

In addition to Rahane and Kohli returning to their usual roles, all-rounder Hardik Pandya and fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who was injured in the Indian Premier League last year, also returned to the squad.

In the meantime, members of the England cricket team also arrived in Chennai on Wednesday after the completion of their tour to Sri Lanka.

England won the two-game test series 2-0 on the back of stunning performances by captain Joe Root, veteran pacemaker James Anderson and spinners Dom Bess and Jack Leach.

The first two tests of the series between India and England will be played at MA Chidambram Stadium in Chennai.

The remaining two Tests will be played at Ahmedabad’s Motera Ground, which is also home to the five-game T20I series, before teams move to Pune for three ODIs.
