The Indian cricket fraternity, led by Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, praised the national team on Tuesday for the “resilience and character” it showed in cashing in on itself after the Adelaide debacle to win the second test in Melbourne. India, led by Ajinkya Rahane, tied the four-game test series 1-1 after beating Australia by eight wickets in the second game in the MCG. Rahane led from the front with a match-winning 112 in India’s first innings.

Kohli, who returned home on paternity leave after leading the side in the first Test, praised Rahane and the team for the win. “What a win this is, absolutely a great effort from the whole team. Couldn’t be happier for the guys and especially Jinks who led the team amazingly to victory. From here on and on,” Kohli said in a tweet.

India entered the Melbourne Test after a humbling defeat to Adelaide in the pink ball day / night match, where they were all out for 36, their lowest Test score ever.
Star battle man Rohit Sharma, who will join Melbourne on Wednesday after completing his mandatory quarantine, praised the team for showing calmness in difficult times.

However, former Indian Captain Bishan Singh Bedi had a warning to the ‘Men in Blue’ and advised them to keep calm.
“(The) 36 all out was terribly ‘erratic’, but an 8wkt win isn’t … I hope Indns can forget both … one like a nightmare and the other like nothing to float on cloud nine. .. 2 more Tests to go .. and a lot of work to do .. keep calm Fellas if you Capt @ ajinkyarahane88 & ‘think’ how to outsmart OZ! ”Tweeted Bedi.
World Cup-winning former skipper Kapil Dev also praised the team for the win, saying Rahane showed exemplary leadership in Kohli’s absence.

Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman chose special praise from debutants Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj.

Former Indian batman Sanjay Manjrekar called the MCG victory “historic”, comparing the aftermath of India’s previous lowest test score of 42 in 1974 and 36 in Adelaide. “After 42, India lost the next text with an innings and 78 runs. Former India opener Virender Sehwag also took to Twitter to praise Rahane and his team’s performance. “A truly special win at the MCG. Great determination and great character. Rahane led from the front, the bowlers were great and Gill is chilly,” tweeted Sehwag.
