Australian skipper Tim Paine became the fastest wicket-keeper on Sunday with 150 layoffs in Test cricket. Paine achieved the feat on the running second day of the second Test against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The Australian skipper took a catch from Mitchell Starc’s bowling to return Rishabh Pant and, as a result, impacted his 150th dismissal in Test cricket. It took Paine only 33 innings to record 150 layoffs as a wicket-keeper and as a result, passed South African Quinton de Kock who had accomplished the feat in his 34th innings in the longest format of the game.

Adam Gilchrist had taken 36 innings to record 150 layoffs, while South Africa’s Mark Boucher had taken 38 innings.

In the ongoing test against Australia, skipper Ajinkya Rahane held the fort for half a century, but Mitchell Starc turned down Rishabh Pant by giving the second session a bit in favor of the hosts.

At the tea break, India’s score was 189/5 with Ravindra Jadeja (unbeaten at 4) and Rahane (unbeaten at 53) at the tuck.

While India scored 99 runs from 27.3 overs during the session, the hosts picked up the wicket from Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant.
