Virat Kohli took to Twitter to praise Indian skipper Ajinkya Rahane, who scored an undefeated century on Sunday on Day 2 of the ongoing Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja gave India full control of the second Test of the four-game series when the visitors ended Day 2 with a lead of 82 runs with five wickets in hand. “Another great day for us. Good test cricket at its best. Definitely a hit by Jinks @ ajinkyarahane88,” Kohli tweeted.

Pat Cummins stole the show in the first session on the second day by bowling a nine overs marathon spell and removing both nighttime Indian batsmen – Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill.
Gill, on Test debut, missed his half century by just five runs while flashing hard to a wide delivery, only to get a weak lead at the wicket-keeper.
Pujara soon followed, but Rahane weathered the storm and won later in the day, helping India take a healthy lead in the first innings, before the rain forced early punches on Day 2 in Melbourne.
Rahane was well supported by Hanuma Vihari and Rishbah Pant. The Indian skipper added more than 50 runs with both batsmen.
Ravindra Jadeja, who came in at six, also remained unbeaten at 40 as India tightened their grip on the game.
Promoted
For the visitors, Mitchell Starc and Cummins each took two wickets, while Nathan Lyon signed one.
Josh Hazlewood, who picked up a five wicket swipe in Adelaide, remained wicketless.
