Sydney Thunder recorded the highest Big Bash League (BBL) ever, totaling 232/5 against Sydney Sixers, in match 48 of the current edition. The match held at the Adelaide Oval saw England opener Alex Hales score his first century in T20 competition with 51 balls, after Sydney Thunder was deployed to hit. Hales finished with a score of 110 from 56 deliveries, in an innings consisting of nine boundaries and eight sixes. The 32-year-old’s ton is the second hundred in as many days at the Adelaide Oval. Skipper Callum Ferguson, Sam Billings and Ben Cutting continued to play cameos to help the Sydney Thunder land a formidable total.
Ferguson hit 42 runs of 23 balls, with three limits and six each to his credit. Billings and Cutting scored 33 runs on 21 and 14 deliveries, respectively.
The first knock included three borders and a six. Cutting’s innings consisted of two fours and three maximums.
Ben Dwarshuis was the bowlers’ choice for the Sixers, good for three layoffs. West Indian all-rounder Carlos Braithwaite and Lloyd Pope each picked a wicket.
The Sixers are currently at the top of the standings, with 32 points from 11 games. The team has won eight games with three losses so far.
Sydney Thunder, on the other hand, is placed in fifth place on the points table. The side has earned 23 points in the same number of games, with six wins and five losses.
