China, India … never count directly

Joe Biden branded Donald Trump as a liar at the beginning of the US presidential debate.

Cleveland, United States:

US President Donald Trump defended his response against the coronavirus, which affects more than seven million people in the country, as Democratic challenger Joe Biden said today at the first presidential debate: “Seven million have contracted the virus. The president has no plan. “”

Joe Biden branded Donald Trump as a liar and told him to shut up when the two clashed in a bad-tempered start to their first televised debate. “The fact is, everything he’s said so far is just a lie. I’m not here to tell his lies. Everyone knows he’s a liar,” said Biden.

“How many of you got up this morning with an empty chair at the kitchen table because someone died of Covid?” Asked Biden.

Faced with the threat of becoming president for a term, Trump hit back, saying, “It’s China’s fault it should never have happened,” Trump said, adding that “millions” could have died without his actions.

“When you talk about numbers, you don’t know how many people died in China, you don’t know how many people died in Russia, you don’t know how many people died in India,” Trump said at the debate in Cleveland.

“They don’t give you an exact count,” he said.

“Many of your Democratic governors said President Trump did a phenomenal job,” Trump claimed. He also said that “we are weeks away from a vaccine” and that “far fewer people are dying”.

The United States has had the highest number of Covid cases in the world. Over 200,000 people have died.

The tension was palpable from the first few minutes, when the two interrupted each other repeatedly and Mr. Biden whipped at one point: “Will you shut up, man!”

The debate, haunted by a deeply divided nation, takes place 35 days before the most strained recent US election.
