Skipper Kieron Pollard’s all round achievement and batsman Darren Bravo’s fifty guided Trinbago Knight Riders to their ninth straight win in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on Saturday. Knight Riders defeated St. Lucia Zouks by 23 runs at Brian Lara Stadium. Zouks won the coin toss and asked Knight Riders to hit first. The team had a bad start when lead-off hitter Lendl Simmons (8) was caught behind the stumps off Scott Kuggeleijn in the third. Tim Seifert joined Tion Webster in the middle and built a grandstand with 43 runs for the second wicket.
The latter was bowled by Zahir Khan in the seventh after scoring 20 runs.
Seifert and Darren Bravo then held a 38-run tie for the third wicket. Zouks skipper Daren Sammy grabbed the much needed wicket for the side. Sammy took over Seifert (30) in the 13th and broke off the partnership.
Pollard then joined Bravo in the center and sewed a quickfire stand of 67 runs from 37 balls. Pollard hit 42 runs from 21 balls, including three sixes and three fours. He was sent back to the pavilion by Kuggeleijn in the 19th century.
Bravo scored 50 from 42 balls scattered with three sixes and one four. He was fired by Kesrick Williams on the last ball of the innings. Dwayne Bravo remained unbeaten for 5 *, as the team placed 175/5 in their assigned 20 overs.
In search of 176 runs, openers Kimani Melius and Mark Deyal had a short partnership of 25 runs for the first wicket. Melius left after scoring 12 points.
Andre Fletcher and Deyal then collected 59 points for the second wicket. Pollard bagged Deyal, 40, and provided the essential breakthrough for his side.
Mohammad Nabi and Fletcher then added a 19 run for the third wicket before the latter was sent back to the pavilion by Pollard in the 14th.
Fletcher played a knock of 42 runs from 27 balls, including three sixes and one four. Zouks then lost two quick wickets when Nabi (17) and Najibullah Zadran (12) were reduced by Pollard and Dwayne Bravo respectively.
Daren Sammy and Scott Kuggeleijn had a short 24-run score for the sixth wicket before they were both fired in the last over by Jayden Seales. Sammy added 14 runs while Kuggeleijn played a 9-run knock.
Roston Chase and Leniko Boucher remained unbeaten at 1 * and 0 * respectively. Zouks only managed to score 152/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
For Knight Riders, Pollard took three scalps, while Bravo and Seales each took two wickets. Pollard got the player of the match.
