Fast bowler Romario Shepherd and spinner Imran Tahir star in Guyana’s Amazon Warriors six-wicket win over Barbados Tridents at Brian Lara Stadium in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League on Thursday. Warriors won the toss and asked Tridents to hit first, but they failed miserably as the team could only bet 89/9 in their allotted twenty overs.
Only four players were able to hit the double digit when Shepherd and Tahir each scalped three wickets and dismantled the Tridents batting lineup. Mitchell Santner and Nyeem Young each scored 18 points.
After 90 runs, Warriors got off to a bad start when Santner hit the first ball of the innings and knocked off opener Brandon King for a duck. Shimron Hetmyer joined Chandrapaul Hemraj in the middle and sewed a 34-run standard for the second wicket.
Hemraj was rejected by Jason Holder in the fifth over of the innings. He played a knockout of 29 run of 22 balls, including two sixes.
Sherfane Rutherford and Nicholas Pooran failed to score big points on the board and took off at 1 and 0 respectively.
Hetmyer and Ross Taylor built the 41-run winning grandstand for the Warriors, giving them the victory with 34 balls over.
For Tridents, Holder took two wickets, while Santer and Raymon Reifer each claimed one wicket.
Shepherd was awarded the Player of the Match award when he returned with the numbers 3-22 in his four overs, including a girl.
In the other game of the day, rain washed out of the game between St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Jamaica Tallawahs.
Patriots, with three points from nine games, have no hope of making it to the semi-finals. Jamaica Tallawahs, meanwhile, remains fourth on the table, with seven points from their eight games.
