Skipper Jason Holder played 69 runs when Barbados Tridents defeated Jamaica Tallawahs by seven wickets at Brian Lara Cricket Stadium on Saturday, September 5. This victory can be seen as a consolation for Tridents, as the team was already eliminated in the semi-final race in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020. In the hunt for 162, Tridents got off to a bad start when the team took the first two wickets from Johnson Charles (0) and Shamarh Brooks (5) with only 17 runs on the board.
Jonathan Carter and Jason Holder then joined the crease and put on 90 runs for the third wicket, with Holder registering nine fours and three sixes.
Tallawahs finally got the breakthrough in the 13th when Sandeep dismissed Lamichhane Holder (69), but Carter and Mitchell Santner finally crossed the line with seven wickets and eight balls over.
Carter and Santner remained unbeaten at 42 and 35 respectively.
Previously, Jermaine Blackwood and Andre Russell’s battles of 74 and 54 Tallawahs, respectively, led to 161/4 in the allotted twenty overs.
Tallawahs chose to hit first and got off to a good start when openers Jermaine Blackwood and Glenn Phillips scored 51 runs for the first wicket.
The Tridents spinners then got in the middle of the action and they were able to maintain a stranglehold on the Tallahwahs.
In the end, Andre Rusell played a 54-run knockout from just 28 balls using four boundaries and five sixes to push the Tallahwahs’ score past 160 points.
