St Lucia Zouks have progressed to the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) final after a 10 wicket win over Guyana Amazon Warriors. St Lucia Zouks bundled Guyana Amazon Warriors at just 55 runs, the second lowest total in CPL, before chasing the goal with ease in less than five overs. In the final of the tournament, St Lucia Zouks will take on Trinbago Knight Riders on Thursday. Rahkeem Cornwall chased the 56-run goal and skipped two sixes in the very first. Mark Deyal also played furiously and the duo scored 26 points on the first two overs.
Both batsmen maintained the offensive mentality despite a low goal and took over their side over the line in the fifth. Cornwall scored 32 points while Deyal scored 19 points.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first, Guyana Amazon Warriors got off to a very bad start, losing two wickets in the first over of the innings. Brandon King was left behind while Shimron Hetmyer was bowled by Scott Kuggeleijn.
Chandrapaul Hemraj was then joined by Nicholas Pooran, who managed to score just 11 runs before Mohammad Nabi fired him. Ross Taylor was the next hitter, but he also failed to make a mark on the field when he got LBW from the delivery of Roston Chase.
Hemraj played cautiously, but batsmen on the other end kept losing their wicket. Chase then took over the wicket from Kemo Paul and with that, Guyana Amazon Warriors were reduced to 32/5.
The fall of wickets did not stop and Hemraj was also sent back to the pavilion on the 13th, thrown by Mark Deyal. Hemraj scored 25 points and was the team’s highest points scorer.
At the next delivery, Deyal Romario caught Shepherd and bowed him. Zahir Khan threw past the 14th and picked two wickets to end the opponent’s innings on 55 runs. Kuggeleijn, Zahir Khan, Deyal and Chase each chose two wickets in the match.
