February 3 (Reuters) – England drummer Ollie Pope has been added to the test squad for his tour of India after overcoming a left shoulder injury suffered against Pakistan last year, the ECB said on Wednesday and England.
The ECB said the 23-year-old trained with the full squad in the past two days.
England have one final practice session at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday before the first test which kicks off in the southern Indian city on Friday.
“… England’s medical team is satisfied that he (the Pope) is available for selection,” the ECB said in a statement.
The Pope was initially excluded from the fight for up to four months after being injured in August while saving a border in the third test against Pakistan in Southampton.
He had already missed three months of cricket after dislocating the same shoulder while playing for Surrey.
The first two matches of the four-test series will be played in Chennai before the teams travel to Ahmedabad for the final two matches. India beat the England team on tour 4-0 in 2016-17 before losing 4-1 to England in 2018.
