Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli defended his squad’s cautious approach in the period leading up to the death overs, skipping 66 runs out of the last four. Virat expressed his belief in understanding the circumstances and respecting the game, rather than trying to hit every ball in the stands. The cricketer further stated that it is only possible to capitalize during the death overs when you are done, crediting his immense experience in T20 cricket for this view. RCB defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 37 runs in the 25th game of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), after a formidable goal of 170.
“We spoke during the second time-out that 140-150 would be good. We got more than that in the end. It was a tough pitch. Really happy with two points. It’s about understanding the conditions and respecting the game, in instead of trying to hit. every ball to the second tier of the stadium. After playing so much cricket, especially T20 cricket, I’ve learned that when you’re dead-centered, you can capitalize, “Kohli said at the discussing the approach in the first innings.
The 31-year-old hit an unbeaten 90 of 52 deliveries to help RCB reach a grand total of 169 runs for the loss of four wickets, after winning the toss and choosing to hit. The bowling attack led by Chris Morris who picked three wickets put in a disciplined performance in the second innings, limiting CSK to 132/8.
MS Dhoni blamed his batsmen for not delivering the goods and urged concrete action in this regard.
“Batting was a bit of a concern and today it was clear too. We need to do something about it,” he said.
Dhoni hinted that CSK should change their approach with the bat.
“I think we better play the other way around and play the bigger shots even when you get out. That’s something we can do in the next few games,” he said.
“I think it also depends on how you’ve performed in the tournament so far and that our at bat was a little lacking in strength from the sixth time on. Individuals can get careful no matter how much confidence you give them.” I haven’t made any adjustments or made plans against the bowlers who bowl from the 6th to the 14th, ”he said.
“In the upcoming games we’ll try to be more expressive. You’d rather be in the 16th or 17th,” he said.
