Shreyas Iyer, Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper, said he had planned his attack on the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowling strike, one six at a time. Iyer elaborated on his thinking by arguing that it seemed like the right choice to take on the KKR bowlers on a small terrain like Sharjah. DC defeated KKR by 18 runs in the 16th game of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. This win took the Delhi-based franchise to the top of the points table. However, this victory might not have been possible without an unbeaten 88 from Iyer, who helped DC post a strong 228/4 total after the team was sent to bat. Iyer knock consisted of seven bounds and six sixes, with the batsman recording his fastest half-century ever in the tournament with 26 deliveries over the course of the innings.
“I thought today was the right time to play the bowlers on a smaller court. I took one six at a time. I will not say that I am a gifted player because I know the hard and smart work I put into it. We keep talking about the close wins. This was one of them, and it’s always satisfying, “said Iyer in the post-game presentation.
The DC skipper enjoyed quality support from opener Prithvi Shaw (66) and Rishabh Pant (38), who hit the ball to all corners of the ground. The bowlers put in a disciplined performance while defending a record score of 229, good for wickets at regular intervals. They didn’t lose their heads despite an excellent collaboration between Eoin Morgan (44) and Rahul Tripathi (36), which cleared the game and dusted off by firing the duo.
