Deepti Sharma says receiving the Arjuna Prize was “a dream” for her

Deepti Sharma of the Indian cricket team, who received the Arjuna Award on Saturday, said her dream was to get her name on the list of recipients of this prestigious award. “I’ve worked hard from the start and my family has also supported me all the time. I was waiting for this day and today I received it. It’s a very proud moment for me.” Sharma told ANI Saturday. “After this, the player’s responsibility to do even better for the country increases. It was a dream of mine to have my name added to the list of the recipient of this award,” she added.

Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, President Ram Nath Kovind virtually handed out the 2020 National Sports and Adventure Award on Saturday. A record 74 athletes from the country were honored on the 115th birthday of hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand.

President Kovind presented the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award, Dhyan Chand Award, Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award and Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar.

Arjuna Award is an award given by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to recognize the achievements of athletes. The prize money for Arjuna Award and Khel Ratna Award has been increased to Rs 15 lakhs and Rs 25 lakhs respectively.


Deepti Sharma has played 54 ODIs and 48 T20Is so far. In ODIs she has taken 64 wickets and managed to score 1,417 runs with an average of 38.29.

In the shortest format, Deepti has taken 53 wickets and registered 423 runs at an average of 18.39.
