The all-round brilliance of Marcus Stoinis helped Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Sunday in a Super Over thriller at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The game was right after Kings XI Punjab, chasing 158 for the win, ended their innings at 157/8. In the Super Over, Kagiso Rabada got KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran consecutive deliveries to end their innings in just three balls. Delhi Capitals chased the three-run goal in the Super Over without breaking a sweat and started their campaign with a win.
In the 20th time of KXIP’s innings, Stoinis defended 13 runs, despite being hit for a six on the first pitch. With a requirement of three deliveries, Stoinis bowed a point ball and followed it up by taking the crucial wicket from Mayank Agarwal, who scored 89 points on 60 balls. Chris Jordan threw the last ball of the innings right into the hands of Kagiso Rabada and the game turned into a Super Over.
Previously, Kings XI Punjab skipper KL Rahul won the coin toss and chose the field.
Delhi got off to a terrible start, losing three wickets in the first four overs.
Rishabh Pant staked a major partnership of 73 runs with skipper Shreyas Iyer for the fourth wicket.
Marcus Stoinis ended the innings at a peak when he hit a fast half century.
During the game, Delhi Capitals spinner Ravichandran Ashwin left the field after injuring his shoulder, diving to save a single from his own bowling.
After the game, Rabada said there is no update on Ashwin’s injury and they will have to wait for medical reports to come in.
