Eight elderly workers in a German nursing home were incorrectly injected with five times the recommended dose of the Pfizer / Biontech vaccine, local authorities said on Monday.

The incident occurred on Sunday in the north-eastern city of Stralsund in the Vorpommern-Ruegen district. District manager Stefan Kerth said in a statement that he regretted the mishap.

“I deeply regret the incident. This single event is the result of an individual mistake. I hope none of those affected develop serious side effects,” he said.

Those injected with the drug were between 66 and 82 years old. You were sent home as soon as the bug was discovered. Four developed flu-like symptoms and were hospitalized for observation.

The district authority pointed out that the German developer of the vaccine, Biontech, had used higher doses in the initial phase of the trials and had not seen any permanent side effects in the volunteers.
