The executives of Facebook Inc and Twitter Inc are in talks with the House of Representatives to testify at a hearing as early as next month, Politico reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the plans.
The exact focus of the hearing is not yet clear, says the report.
Facebook has discussed making its managing director Mark Zuckerberg available to appear before the house’s energy and trade committee, the report added, quoting two people. Twitter and its boss, Jack Dorsey, have discussed the same thing, Politico said, citing one person.
According to the report, the appearance of Facebook and Twitter CEOs may depend on their testimony with Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google and its parent company Alphabet Inc.
A fixed date for the hearing has not yet been set, but could come as early as March, the report says, citing sources.
Facebook, Google and Twitter did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comments. The House’s Energy and Trade Committee declined to comment.
All three chiefs appeared at a Senate Trade Committee hearing in October. Republican lawmakers asked them about their content moderation decisions, while Democrats focused primarily on insufficient action against the misinformation that was disrupting the election.
