Former Indian cricket team skipper Mohammad Azharuddin escaped unharmed on Wednesday when an SUV in which he was traveling with three other people overturned in Sawai Madhopur district near Jaipur, police said. Three other passengers of the vehicle also escaped unharmed, but an employee of an eatery near where the SUV was destroyed sustained minor injuries, said SHO Chandrabhan Singh of Soorwal Police Station.
Singh said the vehicle overturned in the adjacent field when the driver drove traffic past a roadhouse and got too close to the edge of the road and got unbalanced. The accident took place barely four miles from Ranthambore, the SHO said.
He said that after the accident, Azharuddin and his fellow passengers were taken to a hospital along with the eatery staff member from which the former cricketer-cum-Lok Sabha MP and his three companions were fired.
The eatery staffer was also fired after the first assistant, the SHO said, adding that Azharuddin later resumed his journey in another vehicle and reached his destination safely.
