The number of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide on Tuesday has exceeded 100 million since the pandemic began, according to an AFP record.
According to AFP, a total of 100,010,798 infections were reported by 2130 GMT, which were compiled from figures from the national health authorities.
At least 2,151,242 people worldwide have lost their lives to Covid-19.
The vast majority of people infected with the virus recover, but some patients experience symptoms for weeks or even months.
The official number of cases registered in China since the outbreak of the pandemic in late 2019 is only a fraction of the actual number of infections worldwide.
Many countries have been delayed in performing systematic testing and some continue to test only the most severely ill.
The poorest nations now have only the ability to conduct limited tests.
The United States, which passed 25 million confirmed cases last weekend, remains the country with the largest outbreak.
India ranks second with 10.7 million cases and Brazil ranks third with 8.9 million cases.
