India coach Ravi Shastri has said Rohit Sharma will join the squad on Wednesday, adding that they will now look at what the player is physically like after completing his quarantine before a call is made about his inclusion in the team for the third test against Australia. “Rohit Sharma will join the team tomorrow. We will talk to him to see where he has been physically placed as he has been in quarantine for the past few weeks. We will also see how he feels before taking the call,” said Shastri at the post-game press conference.
Previously, ANI had reported that the Indian opener will fly from Sydney on Wednesday (December 30) and join the rest of the team in Melbourne as the third Test in the series of four games will be played at the Melbourne near-schedule. Cricket Ground. in view of the recent outbreak of coronavirus cases in Sydney. Sources aware of developments within Cricket Australia (CA) had said the opener will be flown to Melbourne and enter Team India’s bio bubble on Wednesday.
Stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane also made known his excitement after winning at MCG. “We are delighted to have Rohit back. I spoke to him yesterday, he is waiting to join the team,” said Rahane.
India took an eight-wicket victory over Australia in the Boxing Day Test on Tuesday. Rahane’s 12th century in the game’s longest format and Ravindra Jadeja’s well-crafted fifty had given India firm control in the second Test.
It was a Test masterclass from Rahane, who played gently for the first two sessions and then let go of his real lesson after Sunday tea. If one session had cost India the first Test, it was another session – which Rahane and Jadeja endured on day two – in which the visitors bagged the second game.
After the batsmen’s inspirational show, the Indian bowlers made sure to keep their foot on the pedal as the hosts only scored 200 in the second innings after finishing 195 in the first.
With this win, the visitors have tied the four-match Test series 1-1. Moreover, the win also brought India one step closer to the World Test Championship final.
