The top English players like Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes may all be IPL regulars, but that doesn’t mean they always get a glimpse into the mindset or strategies of a top Indian player. The IPL has made it easier for players around the world to get closer and also exchange notes about each other’s games while sharing the locker room for two months. How much will that help England on the upcoming series? Ajinkya Rahane was asked that question during the day. “Look, we definitely play in the IPL, but Test cricket and IPL are completely different. We do know how their bowlers bowl here, but the length (those one bowls) is completely different in Test cricket than what they are in white ball ( formats), ” Rahane replied.
“What we do in IPL, it’s not like we tell them all the things and I think that’s really important. Yes, we played a lot of cricket together, but when you represent the country it’s about how to give the best individually and as a team, ”said Rahane.
While admitting that Archer and Stokes are key players for England, Rahane said one cannot ignore the kind of balance the opposition as a whole holds.
Ben Stokes and (Jofra) Archer, they are really good players. They did really well for England, so it’s not about an individual. I think it’s all about a team, the England team, they are a very balanced outfit that did. very well recently against Sri Lanka, ”said Rahane.
“So what’s important to us is that we plan against all of their boys and just play here as a team and support our strengths.”
