Team India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara posted photos of training sessions on social media on Thursday ahead of the opening day of the first Test against England. The game is scheduled for February 5 and will be played behind closed doors at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. “Looking forward to game day! #IndVsEng #newchallenge,” read the caption on the 33-year-old’s post on Instagram. Pujara was last seen in action in the four-game test series against Australia, where Team India took the win by a 2-1 margin, with the cricketer’s performance as one of the highlights.

The 33-year-old was the second highest point scorer for the visitors, with Rishabh Pant the lead point binder. Pujara scored 271 runs in four games with an average of 33.88 and a strike rate of 29.20.

Pant collected 274 runs in three games with an average of 68.50 and a success rate of 69.90.

Team India skipper Virat Kohli has confirmed that Pant would continue to put on the wicket-keeping gloves on a field that Kohli believes would help spinners and fast bowlers.

Kohli further praised Pant for his “impact” performance in Australia recently, addressing the press through an online briefing on Thursday, the eve of the first test.

“Rishabh will take the gloves tomorrow,” Kohli said.

“He’s had an impressive performance in Australia recently. He’s in a good space. We want him to build on this, work with him to improve all aspects of the game, which will be with more playing time,” he added.
