Team India had their first outdoor practice since reaching Chennai for the first two tests against England. The Indian team completed their quarantine, completed all of their Covid tests, and trained at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The team’s official Instagram incorporates shared photos from the training session into their story. In one of the photos, Ishant Sharma – who returns to the squad after missing the series Australia with an injury – is hugging a teammate. Bowling coach Bharat Arun can be seen in the following photo along with some other staff members. Captain Virat Kohli, who also missed three of the Tests in Australia, can be seen in the following photo.

The players had started arriving in Chennai on Wednesday and completed their quarantine on Monday.

They have their first net session on Tuesday.

The England squad also completed their quarantine and will start training on Tuesday.

The series opener in Chepauk – as MA Chidambaram Stadium is popularly known – kicks off February 9. The second game of the series is also played at the same location.

The two teams will then travel to Ahmedabad for the next two games at the Motera Stadium.


The Motera will also host the T20 International (T20I) series of five games between the two teams that will follow the tests.

England’s tour of India will conclude with a three-game ODI run in Pune.
