Former England captain Michael Vaughan has again lashed out at England selectors for letting Jonny Bairstow rest for the first two tests against India while “ running well ”. This is the second time that Vaughan has openly criticized the decision to keep Bairstow out of the first two Tests against India played in Chennai.
“@ Jbairstow21 will definitely stay with the test team for the start of the # India series … makes no sense that a player who just got his test place back and plays spin is resting well !!!! #SLvENG !! #OnOn, ”Vaughan tweeted.
Certainly @ jbairstow21 stays with the testing team before the start of the #India series … makes no sense that a player who has only just returned to his test place and plays spin, rest well !!!! #SLvENG !! #On

Earlier, referring to Bairstow, Vaughan had tweeted: “The only player in England’s top 3 to play the subcontinent conditions with any control or composure, rest for the first 2 tests against the best team in the world at home # India !! ! the world is officially crazy … #SLvENG. “
England beat Sri Lanka 2-0 in series of two tests at Galle and Bairstow looked promising in both games, while other English players, apart from skipper Joe Root, struggled to get going.
In the second Test, Bairstow added 28 and 29 runs in the first and second innings respectively, but his intent for spin made him stand out.
In Indian conditions where spinners dominate, Vaughan feels it will be a great loss for the visitors to rest Bairstow for the first two tests.
The English selectors have reassured Bairstow, Sam Curran and Mark Wood for the first and second tests in India.
Under the leadership of Joe Root, England are looking to put on a tough performance to increase their chances of making it to the final of the World Test Championship in June.
