Mohammed Siraj burst into joy after his batting partner Ravichandran Ashwin achieved his fifth Test 100 on Day 3 of the second Test between India and England in Chennai. A video posted by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) showed both Siraj and Ashwin pumping their fists in the air celebrating Ashwin’s milestone – this was also Ashwin’s third time a 100 and a five-wicket. got hungry for the same match. “A moment to cherish forever! @ Ashwinravi99 gets his Test 100 in Chennai and Md. Ashwin’s 100 was also welcomed by the Indian locker room as the cricketer achieved his first Test 100 at his home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium.
The entire Indian contingent gave Ashwin a standing round of applause for this feat, even as India built a huge lead in the second innings and made big strides in their attempt to tie the four-game series.
Ashwin finished with 106 runs with 14 fours and a six in an innings that lasted 148 balls.
The 33-year-old was also involved in a 96-run tie with Indian captain Virat Kohli, who scored 62 on 149, to help India recover from 106 to 6.
Ashwin showed tremendous control over his shots, playing the sweeps, cuts, pulls and loft drives with panache, helping India build a 481-run lead in the second innings.
India trail England 1-0 in the series. The visitors had won the first test, also in Chennai, with 227 runs.
