IND vs ENG: Virat Kohli said they wanted to think about one game at a time.© Instagram
To qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, India must win at least one more Test and the other draw against England in the current test series. But skipper Virat Kohli wants to win both games and not think about the WTC points table at the moment. The series of four games between India and England is tied at 1-1 and now both teams will face each other in the pink ball test, which starts on Wednesday at the Motera Stadium.
Kohli said their focus is “exclusively” on the remaining two Tests and they are not thinking about the possible scenarios for the WTC final.
“You can’t play for those kinds of reasons. We’re not looking for one win and one draw, we want to win both tests. For us, these are two cricket matches and we’re just focused on it. What it does next is a conversation. for later, ” Kohli said at the virtual press conference on Tuesday.
“Right now we are preparing for tomorrow, we are ready for the five big days to win one test match for India and then move on to the next,” he continued.
Last year, the ICC had decided to change the WTC points system due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The WTC table has now been revised to rank teams based on the percentage of points earned from the series played, which means that teams are ranked in order of percentage points scored.
Earlier this month, the Indian skipper had expressed disappointment at the logic behind the change in WTC’s rating system. And Kohli wants to focus on the remaining two Tests against England for now and isn’t worried about what’s in store in the future.
“One day at a time is something we’ve been following for years and there’s no point in getting far ahead of the future. You have no idea what’s going to happen, so we’ll focus on what’s in the present moment,” said Kohli.
