Ravichandran Ashwin’s sensational century on Day 3 helped India tighten their grip on the second test against England at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In search of a giant target of 482 runs on the spinning track, the visitors were pushed further on the backfoot when the three wickets lost for just 53 runs on stumps on the third day. England skipper Joe Root was undefeated at second, while opener Daniel Lawrence was undefeated at 19, while England still needed 429 runs to make history. Axar Patel was responsible for two layoffs, while Ashwin also picked up a wicket after firing the bat. Earlier in the day, the English spinners got off to a great start, taking five wickets in the first session, but Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Ashwin forged a solid partnership for the seventh wicket. Both Kohli and Ashwin gave a butchers masterclass on a tricky field, beaten by many as unsuitable for Test cricket. Kohli scored 62, while Ashwin crushed his fifth Test 100 as India was pitched for 286 in the second innings. (LIVE SCORE CARD)
