Indian Cricket-Five players isolated as boards investigate protocol violation

MELBOURNE, Jan.2 (Reuters) – Five Indian cricketers have been placed in solitary confinement as Australian and Indian cricket councils investigate allegations of biosecurity protocol violations after a video was released showing the players eating in a Melbourne restaurant.

A video posted to social media showed Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Navdeep Saini and Prithvi Shaw eating together.

Australia and India are in the middle of a four-test run, with the two teams currently staying in Melbourne before heading to Sydney for Thursday’s third test.

According to strict biosecurity protocols set by Cricket Australia, players are allowed to sit outside but not to dine in restaurants.

“The BCCI and the CA are investigating the matter and seeking to determine whether the release violates biosafety protocols,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.
