When Mumbai Indians started their title defense in IPL 2020, their anticipated pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, was curiously out of shape in the early stages and was often outpaced by other bowlers, especially Trent Boult, who led the attack for a while. But as the tournament progressed, Bumrah came back into action, gradually taking the mantle of the bowling pack leader back. The case of Shikhar Dhawan in the ranks of the capital cities of Delhi is quite similar. He too started modestly, and at times less than that, but as the business end approached, the left-hander gradually began to find his groove and DC owes him a lot for making it to the playoffs. So when the two clash in Dubai for Qualifier 1 on Thursday, it will be two revived stars trying to outdo each other and lead their sides to the IPL 2020 final.
In MI’s last six games, Bumrah has three three-wicket hauls, including a decimation of Delhi Capitals, while not playing in the last game.
In 13 games, Bumrah has 23 wickets, just two astray by Purple Cap leader Kagiso Rabada. He has an economy of 6/96.
However, Dhawan, who happened to get a duck when DC last played MI, did his part. He played a crucial knockout of 54 against RCB in the final league game, sending DC to second place. Before that, he had some meager scores when DC threatened to implode, but a century against KXIP, in a losing case, got him back on track and he is starting to look reassured again and that’s good news for DC.
This will be a major showdown in Qualifier 1 and could very well describe the fate of the two sides.
