All-rounder Sam Curran from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has said that playing as an opener against SunRisers Hyderabad came as a surprise to him, but he also admitted that he enjoyed playing the part for his side. His comment came when CSK beat SRH by 20 runs on Tuesday at the Dubai International Stadium. SunRisers Hyderabad, led by David Warner, failed to chase the 168 target, after it was reduced to 147/8. For CSK, Karn Sharma and Dwayne Bravo each scalped two wickets. First, CSK hit a total of 167/6 in the allotted twenty overs. Shane Watson scored the highest score for the MS Dhoni-led side when he scored 42 runs. For this match against SRH, CSK changed its opening partnership and management sent Curran to open instead of Watson.
“Yes, a very good win. Obviously we needed a few wins to get the tournament going. I was surprised to get on top, but I really enjoyed it, I gave the team a good start and most importantly, a good win, ”Curran told Dwayne Bravo in a video on iplt20.com.
“It was good to hit the top of the order, we struggled to get some momentum at first, but it came right up against SunRisers Hyderabad. I’m just trying to contribute with both bat and ball,” he added.
Ball in hand, Curran returned with the numbers 1-18 from his three overs. He also got the crucial wicket from SRH skipper David Warner.
Ambati Rayudu and Sam Curran were also among the points for CSK, as they played 41 and 31 strokes respectively. In the end, Ravindra Jadeja played a 25-run quickfire cameo from just 10 balls. For SRH, Sandeep Sharma was the bowlers’ choice when he returned with figures of 2-19 from his four overs.
Before the game against SRH, CSK made one change to their line-up when they brought in Piyush Chawla in place of Jagadeesan.
SRH is in fifth place in the points table while CSK is in sixth place.
