It is rare to see Chennai Super Kings in the bottom half of the IPL points table. But having said that, it’s not always that you also see Delhi on top. So these are all numbers that can mislead. CSK are far from off the mark after winning their final game and Delhi Capitals will have a job on their hands when they meet the former champions in Sharjah on Saturday.

Before saying anything else, one thing to be noted is the way the Sharjah numbers are starting to change. The throws wear out and Sharjah no longer promises more than 200 scores in any inning. The second hit also gradually becomes a challenge.

CSK was almost down and out by the time they met SRH, but on the Hyderabad side, things aren’t getting much better either. They struck without condemnation against what was a moderate Chennai total and went down without much struggle.

While CSK were pretty much efficient with their at bat, two runs are all that matters in this situation and it really doesn’t matter how they are scored. So CSK will be relieved and happy.

Promoted

DC has been happy for the most part and is looking good. Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer were on point with the bat against RR, who hit unconvincingly and let go of a potentially winning position while the DC bowlers stuck to the line and length, with new man Tushar Deshpande adding some novelty and wickets.

Delhi Capitals are quite at the top of the IPL 2020 table with 12 points from eight games, while CSK has half as much from the same number of matches. But all of that will be irrelevant on the ground as both will have to push their business, hopefully leading to a competitive match.
