The IPL 2020 final kicked off with a bang when Trent Boult, the pacesetter of Mumbai Indians, removed Marcus Stoinis from Delhi Capitals at the first pitch of the match. It was a dream start for the defending champion, as the New Zealander started the proceedings with an absolute blast. The ball appeared to go over with the corner, but cut in slightly after throwing, putting the Australian all-rounder straight, who could only tip the ball to wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock. In the process, Boult became the first bowler to take a wicket on the very first ball of an IPL final.

It was the worst possible start for Shreyas Iyer and his team after winning the toss and choosing to hit at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Things went from bad to worse for Delhi Capitals when Boult struck again, this time in the third over to knock out Ajinkya Rahane for 2. Kock again makes no mistakes.

This staggered Delhi Capitals at 16 for two in 2.4 overs. Delhi had hoped their top scorer Shikhar Dhawan would save them with one more solid blow, but Jayant Yadav had other ideas.

Arriving to replace Rahul Chahar, a man who has taken 15 wickets this season, Jayant Yadav hit with his third ball, the castling Dhawan, who this time collected only 15 of the 13 balls.

At the toss, Rohit Sharma said it was a “tactical” move to include Jayant Yadav in the playing XI, with Delhi having many left-handers on the team.
