Indian Premier League, KKR vs CSK: MS Dhoni says batsmen let team down, should have hit target

Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said the batsmen have abandoned the team after a spirited comeback from the bowlers in their Indian Premier League game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday. In the chase of 168, veteran opener Shane Watson hit his second consecutive fifty to give CSK a perfect start, but the team choked at the back of the innings and was limited to 157 for five to suffer its fourth loss from five games .

“In the middle overs, there was a phase where they threw two-three good overs. Then we lost two-three wickets in a row. If our at bat had been different in that period, the result would have been different,” said Dhoni on the presentation ceremony after the game.

Previously, ‘Birthday Boy’ threw Dwayne Bravo a perfect finale to finish with numbers of 3/37, with the trio of Sam Curran, Shradul Thakur and Karn Sharma each claiming two while CSK threw KKR away for 167.

“At first we gave away a few too many with the new ball. Karn (Sharma) did very well. The bowlers did well to reduce them to 160 points. As a team we should have hit the target, but the bowlers did well. batsmen let the bowlers down. ”

Dhoni promoted himself to number 4 but was cleared by spinner Varun Chakravarthy, while Sam Curran fell victim to Andre Russell after a solid 11-ball 17.

“Rotation of strike is always important. Sometimes we have to assess deliveries. There were hardly any limits in the last three overs.”

“You have to be a little innovative in these scenarios. If someone is bowling just behind a lane, you have to find a way to cross boundaries. We haven’t adapted well,” said Dhoni.

KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik had returned to winning ways and praised his team, especially the duo of Sunil Narine (1/31 of four overs) and Andre Russell (1/18 of two overs) for their neat bowling at death .

“There are a number of protagonists for each team. Narine is one for us. The least we can do is support him. Two to three bad games don’t matter,” said Karthik.

When asked about their change of batting order, Karthik said: “Our batting order is very fluid. I started at three, today I hit at seven. Like those guys hit at the start, they hit really well.”
