Kings XI Punjab batsmen threw away a golden opportunity to end their lost streak when they fell two runs short of the 165-point goal against Kolkata Knight Riders at Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Match 24 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 on Saturday. After a heartbreaking loss, a dejected KXIP skipper KL Rahul had no words to explain what happened in the back of the chase from his side. “We started well, we got close, but to be honest I don’t have any answers. I just have to keep going hard over the next seven and win a few,” KL Rahul said during the post-game presentation.
Rahul praised his bowlers for carrying out the plans asked of them.
“We’re bowling well, it’s the first game on this new strip, but the bowlers have adapted well by swinging the ball early and getting wickets in the power play, which is the only way to keep them below 180.”
“Even in death, they did well to mix it up, bowling bouncers and bluffing the batsmen with wide yorkers. That’s what we asked of them and they got it right,” he added.
Rahul denounced the fact that Punjab lost wickets in cluster towards the end of the chase and ultimately failed to reach the target.
“We were not satisfied at any stage during the run chase, you are not satisfied until you win. Mayank and I started well, but when you lose wickets in clusters at the end, it is difficult to cross the line,” Rahul decided.
KXIP will face Royal Challengers Bangalore at the iconic Sharjah Cricket Ground on October 15th.
