Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday by 8 wickets at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The win has taken the Mumbai-based franchise to the top of the points table. Rahul Chahar secured the win with an economic spell of two for 18 from his four overs and then Quinton de Kock knocked KKR out of the game with his 13th Indian Premier League half century while remaining unbeaten at 78. KKR, taking the field below their new captain Eoin Morgan, never got to work with the bat after winning the toss.
Trent Boult, Jasprit Burmrah and Rahul Chahar made sure Mumbai got wickets at regular intervals.
Boult, Bumrah and Nathan Coulter-Nile all picked up a wicket apiece.
Coulter-Nile was brought to the cleaners by Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins in the 20th over when he gave away 21 points.
In response, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock Mumbai gave a flying start. The openers scored 51 points in the power play and went on with 94 points for the first wicket.
Rohit Sharma scored 35 from 36 deliveries in an innings consisting of five limits and a six. Shivam Mavi sent him back with an out-swinger when the MI skipper shoved one straight to Dinesh Karthik behind the stumps.
Varun Chakravarthy got one past Suryakumar Yadav when he chopped a sweep shot on his stumps.
Hardik Pandya then swung his bat and remained unbeaten at 21 from just 11 balls as Mumbai took a comfortable win.
Mumbai now has 12 points from eight games, the same as Delhi Capitals, but a better net run rate puts them at the top of the points table.
KKR remains in fourth place, but this tough defeat has taken its toll on their net run rate and they are now in danger of slipping off the points table.
