AB de Villiers, a day after playing a winning knockout against Kolkata Knight Riders, took to Twitter to cover the ‘break the beard’ challenge. The former South African batsman tweeted a video showing off his new look to his followers. This ‘break the beard’ challenge has become quite a popular trend on the social media, including several Indian Premier League (IPL) stars. Before de Villiers, Mumbai Indians all-rounder Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya and KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik had taken up this challenge.
De Villiers in his position did not specifically nominate anyone to take up the challenge, but tagged a few of his IPL rivals, including childhood friend Faf du Plessis. The explosive batsman also wrote that he “can’t wait to see who picks up this baton next”.

“Change is the only constant,” they say. Took this thought a little bit seriously and decided to practice a new style! What are you saying @ dk00019 @ kieron.pollard55 @fafdup @ krunalpandya_official. Can’t wait to see who picks up this baton next! #BreakTheBeard # ipl202 @break_the_beard, ”de Villiers tweeted along with the video.
De Villiers played a key role as RCB beat KKR to record their fifth win of the season on Monday. On a slow Sharjah wicket where most batsmen struggled to find their way, de Villiers was at his fiery best, beating down a quick half century, scoring 73, not from just 33 balls.
His “superhuman knock”, as described by RCB skipper Virat Kohli, helped them shake off a slow start and place an impressive 194/2 total in 20 overs.
On the hunt for the grand total, the KKR batters succumbed to pressure and were limited to 112/9, taking a massive 82-point loss.
With the win, RCB climbed to third place, accumulating the same amount of points as leaders Mumbai Indians and second-placed Delhi Capitals.
RCB will then take on Kings XI Punjab in their next match, who had beaten them by 97 points in the last game earlier this season.
