Suresh Raina’s decision to leave the UAE and return home for family reasons has left a huge void in the Chennai Super Kings middle class and former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris believes Ambati Rayudu could be the perfect answer are on the concerns of skipper MS Dhoni. On the Star Sports show Cricket Connected, Styris said, “Yeah, difficult, isn’t it. A player of that class, a player who’s been so good for so long, to suddenly find those runs even in the field and also the odd over with the ball, becomes a big task.
“I know the CSK roster is deep, they have a lot of options at the top, but I also believe that as much as the pressure is right now to find that number 3, it is probably the most challenging time I can look for anyway to CSK and in particular the leadership of this group – I think with Dhoni and Stephen Fleming – it is now up to them to bring the group together now that they have lost Raina and Harbhajan.
“A few options they could go with, bring in the two foreign players at the top and the younger Gaekwad (Ruturaj) as well or they can decide to have a pinch-hitter. Maybe even someone like Ravindra Jadeja, who we in Indian colors has been so good, so they have to find that No. 3. Personally I would put Rayudu in to take that spot. ”
CSK were the last team to start training when the squad finally returned to the field last week after their third round of coronavirus testing. The team had a shady start to their campaign in the UAE as some members of the camp tested positive for COVID-19 and the entire contingent had to quarantine themselves longer than expected.
The 13th edition of the competition will be played from September 19 to November 10, at three locations in the UAE: Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai.
