IPL 2020: Chris Gayle demands “some respect for the name” after scoring fifty, Ravi Shastri calls him “great character”

Chris Gayle, who played his first march of IPL 2020, scored a crucial 53 points when Kings XI Punjab beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by eight wickets. When he turned fifty, the West Indian celebrated it in a unique style, pointing to a sticker on his bat that read ‘The Boss’. In the post-game interview, the explosive batsman revealed what he meant by that gesture and what message he wanted to convey. “I just wanted to say that the name was respectful,” said Gayle. However, he and the commentators laughed when he was told he had held the sticker upside down.

Meanwhile, Indian head coach Ravi Shastri described Gayle in an exclusive interview with GossipMantri as “one of the game’s great characters” who will rank as one of the greatest entertainers to have played the sport.

“He’s one of the game’s great characters. He lights up the tournament. He will be remembered as one of the greatest entertainers to have played the game,” Shastri told GossipMantri.

Gayle, one of the most destructive openers in the cricket world, came in third for the Kings XI Punjab on Thursday, staging a solid partnership with skipper KL Rahul. The duo sewed a 93-run stand for the second wicket to place their side in the driver’s seat.

KXIP, who has lost several games from a strong position, almost let the game slip again, but Nicholas Pooran hit a six on the last ball to seal victory for his side.

Speaking of KL Rahul’s performance in the current edition, Shastri said he is hugely impressed with the way he has performed, both as a leader and even more so as a batsman.

“He did it brilliantly. With any luck they could have won five. They should have won easily last night, but it came down to the telegrams,” Shastri told GossipMantri.

In the interview, Shastri also shared his views on who he believes are the best-groomed athletes in all sports, choosing Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo as his two picks.

Despite the fact that Kings XI Punjab beat third place for the second time this season, he is at the bottom of the points table with only four points from eight games. KL Rahul and Co. must win all their remaining games to be in with a chance of the playoffs. They will then face defending champions Mumbai Indians at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Oct. 18.
