Following a defeat by the Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) skipper KL Rahul admitted on Thursday that his team had made “mistakes” that led to the defeat. KXIP suffered a 48-run defeat to the Indian Indians in the Indian Premier League at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. “Obviously disappointing. Looking back, we could have had three out of four wins. We made some mistakes in this game. Important that we come back stronger,” Rahul said during the post-game presentation.
After being asked to hit first, Mumbai Indians posted a massive 191 runs on the board. Skipper Rohit Sharma scored 70 points while Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya played an unbeaten knockout of 47 and 30 points respectively.
Pollard and Pandya skipped 18 runs in the 18th and 19 in the 19th. The duo then hit four sixes in the final to set a highly competitive goal for KXIP.
Rahul further stated, “The wicket looked good with the new ball. I don’t know if it slowed down after that. Another bowling option would be nice – an all-rounder who can hit and bowl well. Will sit with the coaches to decide if we have a want to play an extra bowler. “
Also, Mayank Agarwal earned the Orange Cap after scoring 25 runs in the match, as his run count went up to 246 runs. However, Rahul, who has 239 runs under his belt, has his eyes fixed on the Orange Cap.
“Until and unless that orange cap stays with KXIP, I’m happy. He (Agarwal) has worked really hard and deserves that cap. I’m sure I’ll take it off soon,” he said.
