After a close eight-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Thursday, Kings XI Punjab spinner Murugan Ashwin said the addition of tough batsman Chris Gayle on the side gives a lot of energy to the team. In the 172 chase, Rahul scored 61 runs from 49 balls, while Gayle scored 53 and handed KXIP their second IPL 2020 win. This was Gayle’s first game of the season.
In the end, KXIP needed two of the last left, but Yuzvendra Chahal pitched brilliantly and put on a tough job for the KXIP batsmen when the game came down to one run of one ball. Nicholas Pooran hit a six on the last ball when KXIP let out a sigh of relief.
Both KXIP wins are against RCB in the 13th edition of IPL.
“It’s good to win. Chris coming back to the side gives a lot of energy to the team. The mood in the camp was always good, even when we were losing. We have not lost our minds, we know we are playing. “Good cricket and it just crosses the line. Really glad we won a match and it’s about repeating the game after game,” Ashwin said at the post-game press conference.
Ashwin, who returned with the numbers of 2/23 in his four overs, said the wicket helped the spinners because it held the ball, but the bowler must choose the line and length correctly.
Sure, the wicket held a little bit, but having said that, the point is that you have to run the length as well. If you miss your length, you can get a six, given how small the ground is. throw and 1. ball can get to a six and it can just make a mistake. There was something in it for the spinners, ”said the spinner.
“The bowl came out great, I even looked at the previous games played on this wicket, even watched the last game that RCB played and their spinners bowling. and hit the ball into the wickets, ”he added.
Speaking of the team’s performance in the tournament, Ashwin said the squad is looking forward to repeating this win in the upcoming games.
“This is a game from T20 and all the games are very close. It’s bat vs ball and it’s about who gets the upper hand in the end. Glad we’ve crossed the line this time, it’s about replicating these moments and that these close finishes come to us so the points table looks different. Play every game at once and play the best you can on the field, ”he said.
KXIP got out on a flyer featuring opening batsmen Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul blundering the RCB bowling attack. After witnessing a slow start, Mayank and Rahul hit the ball throughout the park. The duo added 56 runs in the power play. Mayank did not allow any bowler to settle down and left the boundaries in Yuzvendra Chahal’s first cross.
However, Chahal made a comeback in the eight, clearing out Mayank to give RCB their first breakthrough. Chris Gayle, who played his first match of the ongoing IPL, then joined skipper Rahul in the middle.
Gayle struggled at the start of his knock, but soon made up for the point balls by hitting sixes and fours. Meanwhile, Rahul broke its 20th IPL half century while KXIP looked comfortable in the chase.
With the duo scoring 20 points in the 16th over, RCB lost all hope of winning the match. Ultimately, however, RCB made a scary comeback, but did not cross the line.
Earlier, after choosing to hit first, RCB set a competitive goal of 172 runs on the back of Chris Morris’ impressive performance with the bat. Morris hit an unbeaten 25 runs from just eight deliveries.
KXIP will now take on Mumbai Indians at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Oct. 18.
