The 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) players auction will take place on Feb. 18 in Chennai, the IPL tweeted Wednesday. The 14th edition of the competition is likely to be held in India after IPL 2020 was held behind closed doors in the UAE from September to November last year. Prior to the auction, the player retention window closed by teams on January 20 and several major players, including Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, and Aaron Finch, were released by their respective teams. Most teams preferred to keep their core, even though there were some compromises, such as Robin Uthappa, who joined Chennai Super Kings from Rajasthan Royals.
