The Bangalore-based franchise shared the news on Twitter and expressed their joy after the addition of Bangar. “We are delighted to welcome Sanjay Bangar to the RCB Family as a batting consultant for # IPL2021! Bangar was involved with the Indian team as a batting coach from 2014 to 2019, before being replaced by Vikram Rathour at the start of the home season in September. The 48-year-old’s last assignment was the West Indies tour, after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup.
Bangar previously worked as a head coach at IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), after initially being appointed as an assistant coach. KXIP recorded their first appearance in the cash-rich league final in 2014, during the former Indian cricketer’s tenure. He went on with the franchise for three more seasons before giving up the role.
The 48-year-old joins Mike Hesson, RCB’s director of cricket operations and Simon Katich, the head coach, as part of the coaching team. The Bangalore-based franchise also features Sridharan Sriram as the batting and spin bowling coach, with Adam Griffith as the bowling coach.
RCB has released 10 players, including five foreign players, ahead of the IPL 2021 players auction that will take place in Chennai on February 18. The Bangalore franchise traded all-rounders Harshal Patel and Daniel Sams from Delhi Capitals (DC).
