(Bloomberg) – Job postings in the United States fell in August for the first time in four months, indicating a moderation in the pace of hiring as the pandemic continues.
The number of open positions slipped to 6.49 million during the month, from 6.7 million revised upwards in July, according to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey. Department of Labor, or JOLTS, released Tuesday. A Bloomberg survey of economists called for a decrease to 6.5 million. Openings that involve workers recalled after layoffs or positions offered only internally are not counted in the figure.
The number of hires has increased while the total number of departures has decreased.
