By the fourth day of the vote count, Joe Biden was 253 over 214.

US Democrat Joe Biden neared winning the White House and built on his tight lead over President Donald Trump in the battlefield states of Pennsylvania and Georgia.

Trump remained defiant, pledging to raise unsubstantiated allegations of fraud as a tired, fearful nation waited for clarity on an election that only added to the country’s deep polarization.

He told Joe Biden not to “unjustly lay claim to” the White House as incomplete presidential election results showed the Democrats close to an insurmountable lead. “Joe Biden shouldn’t wrongly claim the office of president. I could make that claim too. Legal proceedings are just beginning!” Trump tweeted.

On the fourth day of the vote count, Joe Biden had a 253-214 lead in the state electoral college vote to determine the winner, according to Edison Research. Securing Pennsylvania’s 20 votes would put Biden over the 270 it takes to win the presidency after nearly five decades of political career.

Joe Biden would also win if he prevailed in two of the other three key states where he was just ahead on Friday: Georgia, Arizona and Nevada. As in Pennsylvania, all three were still processing ballots on Friday.

Nationwide, Joe Biden led Trump with 4.1 million votes out of a record 147 million votes.

US election results 2020: Republican leader Mitt Romney slams Trump for “manipulated” electoral claims
Republican leader Mitt Romney has beaten Trump over claims that elections are “rigged”. In a post on social media, he wrote: “The president has the right to request recounts, investigate alleged voting irregularities if there is evidence, and seek legal redress. These measures are in line with our electoral process. He is wrong to say that the elections were rigged, corrupted and stolen – this harms the cause of freedom here and around the world, weakens the institutions that underpin the republic, and ignites ruthlessly destructive and dangerous passions. ”

2020 US election: Joe Biden’s lead is growing in Pennsylvania

At the Pennsylvania Grand Prix, Joe Biden’s lead grew unstoppable as the final ballots were added up. By late Friday, he had a nearly 20,000 vote advantage over Trump, though that was still within the narrow range that would likely require a recount.

Should 77-year-old Biden be confirmed to have won Pennsylvania, he will automatically cross the threshold for winning the presidency.

Trump says Biden shouldn’t unfairly claim the presidency

US President Donald Trump told challenger Joe Biden not to “unjustifiably lay claim to” the White House as incomplete presidential election results showed Democrats close to an insurmountable lead.

“Joe Biden shouldn’t wrongly claim the office of president. I could make that claim too. Legal proceedings are just beginning!” Trump tweeted.

Trump himself has repeatedly claimed he won Tuesday’s election, despite the number of votes strongly suggesting that he was named president for a term.
