Joe Biden will be a president who represents the best of America, said his deputy and vice president-elected Kamala Harris, declaring he is a leader the world will respect.
Ms. Harris praised the 78-year-old US president-elect on Friday, saying that Mr. Biden will be president for all Americans.
“Know that Joe Biden will be a president who represents the best in us. A leader that the world will respect and that our children can look up to,” Ms. Harris said in a tweet.
Kamala Harris, 56, the daughter of an Indian immigrant from Chennai, made history by becoming the country’s first black American woman to be elected vice president.
While politicians of Indian descent have been elected heads of state in various parts of the world from Mauritius to Fiji over the past few decades, as Vice President of the United States Harris would be the most powerful politician of all time.
Joe Biden called for unity in the country in a series of tweets.
“This is our moment – our common – to write a newer, bolder and more compassionate chapter in the life of our nation,” Biden said in a tweet.
“Each of us has a responsibility in our own life to do everything possible to slow the virus down. Every decision we make is important. Every decision we make can save a life.
“This is the moment when we need to steel our spikes, redouble our efforts and rededicate ourselves to the fight against COVID-19. Let us remember: we are all in it together,” he said.
