Washington, United States:
U.S. presidential candidate Joe Biden’s runner-up Kamala Harris suspended the trip Thursday after her communications director tested positive for Covid-19. Harris did not come into “close contact” with the employee.
An unoccupied flight crew member also tested positive, campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement.
Harris didn’t need to be quarantined, O’Malley Dillon added, but “out of caution” he would virtually cancel trips and campaigns before hitting the streets again on October 19.
Both people flew with the Democratic Senator on October 8th. All three were masked, said O’Malley Dillon.
Harris has since run two PCR tests, both negative, the Democratic Campaign said, and she had not had any contact with either person for 48 hours before testing positive.
The announcement is the latest slip-up in a presidential campaign that has been hit by the coronavirus pandemic, and comes two weeks before the day President Donald Trump tested positive for the disease.
