MUMBAI, Dec. 1 (Reuters) – Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders, co-owned by acclaimed Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, has taken a stake in the United States-based Major League Cricket, the Twenty20 league said.
MLC’s inaugural season, with six franchises, is set to begin in 2022. It will be the third T20 league to see the involvement of the Knight Riders Group, which also owns the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League.
The Trinbago Knight Riders won their fourth CPL title in the past six seasons in an undefeated championship in 2020, while KKR won two IPL titles.
“For several years now, we have been developing the Knight Riders brand globally and closely monitoring the potential of T20 cricket in the United States,” Khan said in a statement.
“We are confident that Major League Cricket has all the pieces in place to execute its plans and we look forward to making our partnership a huge success in the years to come.”
