Mohammed Shami paid an emotional tribute to his father Tousif Ali in a social media post, praying “that God will give me strength as you (my father) have always given me”. Shami’s father died of a heart attack in January 2017, and on Tuesday the cricketer posted a photo with his father on a hospital bed remembering his oldest. “4th year complete today. I wish I could see you again, walk in the door, but I know that’s impossible,” Shami wrote in an Instagram post.

“I know you can feel my tears and you don’t (want) me to cry, I pray that God will give me strength like you’ve always given and somehow get me through as I struggle with heartache if I had lost you.

“Proud to be your son and miss you so much, love your dad!” Shami wrote.

The fast bowler was last seen in action for India during the four-game test series in Australia.

Shami suffered a hariline fracture in his right forearm after being hit while hitting in the first test of the Adelaide tour and missing the last three games of the series.

Shami, who made his international debut in 2013 in a one-day international game against Pakistan, played 50 Tests, 79 ODIs and 12 Twenty20 internationals for India.

The 30-year-old has 180 Test wickets, 148 ODI wickets and 12 T20I wickets to his name.

Shami was not part of the squad named for the first two tests against England in Chennai on February 5.
