Pakistani batsman Imran Butt’s Test debut got off to a dream start when he took a stunning catch to the left to send South African opener Aiden Markram back to the pavilion in Karachi. Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi threw a good length over the right-handed and pulled the edge of Markram’s bat, and Butt, standing by the second slip, dove to the left to grab the ball low to get the batsman. “Already an unforgettable debut for Imran Butt,” the International Cricket Council wrote on Twitter, sharing the video.

Fellow debutant Nauman Ali also impressed, taking two wickets when Pakistan ejected the visitors for 220 after South Africa won the toss and chose to hit.
Ali got the crucial wickets from South African captain Quinton de Kock and half-centurion Dean Elgar in consecutive overs as the hosts dominated Day 1 of the first Test in Karachi.
Yasir Shah also took three wickets, while South Africa also suffered two run-outs.
Elgar was the batsmen’s choice for South Africa, for 58. Their next best batsman was spinner George Linde, who made 35.
Kagiso Rabada, in return, got South Africa off to a good start, removing Pakistani openers Abid Ali and Imran Butt early.
While Rabada sent Abid Ali’s off-stump cartwheeling after making four runs, Gloved Butt made a short delivery all the way to the trench for a score of 9 in his first Test inning, bringing Pakistan 15/2. Pakistan ended the day on 4/33, with Keshav Maharaj trapping Babar Azam for the stumps and Anrich Nortje knocking over the stumps of night watchman Shaheen Afridi.
