  • The film has been presented by Salman Khan

Actor Pankaj Tripathi says he was looking for something exciting when actor-director Satish Kaushik offered him Kaagaz, a movie that he instantly fell in love with. The film is based on the life of Bharat Lal, also known as Lal Bihari of Azamgarh, who fought a legal battle for 18 years to prove that he is alive. During a virtual press conference at the trailer launch of KaagazPankaj Tripathi said that he was drawn to the world of Lal and that it did not take him long to understand his strange battle. “By the time he (Satish Kaushik) narrated the story to me, I was on board. I told him I was ready with my dates, just let me know when I should go. As an actor, you’re looking for scripts what makes you feel like, ‘ I deserve this story. ” I felt that way about Kaagaz. I caught the film before I could change my mind, “Pankaj Tripathi told reporters.

Like Lal, who ran from pillar to post to challenge official documents declaring him dead, the 44-year-old actor has had his share of fighting to make his mark in the industry that had largely overlooked him. Pankaj Tripathi fought for nearly a decade before making a breakthrough in Gangs of Wasseypur in 2012 and has since become one of the most talked about stars, with winning performances in movies and shows like Stree, Mirzapur, Sacred Games and Ludo.

“I had to fight a lot, which is part of the job. Until the identity of an actor is established, he is lost. Many people come to Mumbai with the dream of becoming an actor. Until they establish an identity, they continue to do so. So there is a struggle to create an identity even in the cinema. Kaagaz it has a similar battle, that of existence. My struggle has been long but organic and fruitful. I have learned to live thanks to that ”, he added.

Hosted by superstar Salman Khan, the film will premiere on ZEE5 on January 7.
